What are Enterprise Systems

Wikipedia describes Enterprise Systems as large-scale application software packages that support business processes, information flows, reporting and data analytics in complex organizations.

Whilst Enterprise Systems are generally packaged enterprise application software  systems they can also be extended with bespoke, custom developed solutions created to support a specific organization's needs.

Types of enterprise systems include:

  • enterprise resources planning (ERP) systems,
  • customer relationship management (CRM) software,
  • Enterprise and Web Content Management (ECM, WCM).

Enterprise systems are traditionally built on software platforms, such as SAP’s NetWeaver and Oracle's Fusion, and databases. Over the last few years the trend to move to cloud first and open source solutions continues to gain momentum.

From a hardware perspective, enterprise systems are the servers, storage and associated software that large businesses use as the foundation for their IT infrastructure. These systems are designed to manage large volumes of critical data with high levels of transaction performance, resilience and data security.
